Join Us at Keens as We Confer the Lincoln Casket Flag
from 1865 to its Permanent Home
Keens has honored the legacy of Lincoln since 1885 and proudly welcome his historic Casket Flag to its permanent residence.
Guests are invited to enjoy a two-hour cocktail reception inspired by President Lincoln's favorite flavors. The menu will feature an elevated assortment of oysters, lobster, warm cornbread, apple fritters, and a selection of refined canapes.
In homage to Lincoln's preferred beverages - coffee and milk - the bar will present thoughtful interpretations including Espresso Martinis, Milk Punch, and additional specialty cocktails.
Crafted by Annin & Company, the nation's oldest and largest flag maker, the Applegate Flag is an anticipatory 37-star United States flag dating to 1865. The flag was used aboard the funeral train car, The United States, where it draped the coffin of President Abraham Lincoln during the journey from Washington, D.C. to Springfield, Illinois following his assassination.
Today, the Applegate Flag stands as one of the only known surviving flags to have covered Lincoln's coffin, distinguished by its authenticity, historic significance, and continuous chain of custody.
We look forward to sharing this historic evening with you.
